It's not Witcher 3. CDPR set the bar too high with that one.
The game is far too short and needs another year of polish and extra content to be enjoyable.
RTX is very nice though.
...
Originally disappointed, but now that I played a different ending, I feel that I found the vision CDPR had for this. Fingers crossed that once more content becomes available, this game will shine as intended.
... 3 years passed ...
Phantom Liberty came out including patch 2.0 and the game is great. 100% recommended.

Masterpiece. Best game ever made, by which future games will be compared to.

Very impressed with this remake. Beautifuly crafted characters and environments, superbly polished and optimised for PC hardware.

This is how all games should be made!

It really doesn't matter how awesome and fun this 80's spoof of a game it is, when your experience can so easilybe spoiled by UPLAY. I love games for the experience they offer and if I was to judge by that merit alone then I would have to NOT recommend this game.

Once you get over UPLAY stop-gap, the game is amazing fun. Neons, 80's screen and audio effects, unashamedly cheesy quotes, it's got it all in spades!

SAMPLE UPLAY EXPERIENCE
1. launch the game
2. wait anywhere between 5 minutes and 15 hours until UPLAY updates itself
3. you play
4. you finish and in an hour you launch the game again to continue
5. your progress is all erased, because of UPLAY
6. vent your spleen on a review
7. publicly announce that you will not buy from UBISOFT again
8. wonder why this studio is so hell bent to put itself out of business
9. before you comment about my internet connection, it's 100% reliable
10. Ubisoft, please take a note.

Being a big fan of RAGE and its engine, I was really looking forward to this game. But it left me uneasy having bought it full price when it was released.

GOOD
Story is excellent and it will make you emotionally invested. This is very welcome counter-balance to heavy FPS action. The story will never let you forget who you're fighting against. Sometimes it gets a bit overbearing, but there is plenty of jokes and funny references to go around.

BAD
I reloaded RAGE just to make sure I was remembering this engine correctly. Unfortunately I was. This game is technically one BIG mess. It doesn't support anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering. If you enable it in the console, your FPS will go into crawl. It is worth noting that RAGE supported all these essential PC features fine back in 2011.

UGLY
Texture memory management is a joke and even with any of the latest graphics cards the game will look like it's from 2011 all over again. The ugly part is that even RAGE looked better back in 2011. Now in 2014, the same engine is used, but in far worse way than in 2011. That is utterly inexcusable. For example, none of the shortcomings of the original RAGE implementation were addressed, such as texture pop-in. If you're a PC owner, you will be disappointed as this game's graphics appears to be dumbed down due to the current "next gen" consoles.

CONCLUSION
Despite brilliant story line, believable acting and satisfying gaming action, it's the technical execution which ultimately brings it down on PC. You may have heard an advice from other reviewers to wait in order to get this game from "bargain bin" and I concur.

I really wanted to like this game. REALLY!

Here's what made it impossible:

1. Integration with Windows Live
It's impossible to save your progress unless you have an account

2. Mirriad of online this and online that
The moment you start the game you have to go through choice after choice pop-ups.
While you are doing that, the game talks to you using words like "awesome", "totally", "cool" and "I have a great feeling about this". None of this can be skipped, you HAVE to listen to it.

3. Boring
Apart from enhanced visuals, this game compared to DIRT2 is the same but without all the fun.

Wish I could have my money back.

I see other reviewers' complaints about the story line, characters, etc. I find myself wondering whether they've played the same game as me?!

This game is head and shoulders above any other FPS game out there for its weapons, movement and AI mechanics. The graphics is far ahead of any other game of its time, with its texture streaming technology where they've achieved the most realistic environments I've seen to date. Also, you will not see any repeating textures that are so common in other game titles.

Game characters are exquisitely portrayed and memorable. Perhaps you won't find much back story for them, but this game is FPS with RPG elements, not the other way around. The game uses RPG elements to involve you into its story, it's a tool, not and end in itself.

The same applies to story line. Simple doesn't always mean bad. On contrary, simplicity is Zen, and that is hard to achieve, especially in FPS. Take Crysis 2 or 3 for example, where I've still no idea what's going on, despite replaying it few times. That's because story in Crysis seems like an addon, so I don't care for it. RAGE will make you care, for its story is essential to your gaming experience.

Vehicle fights are incredibly fun, but you need to take time to master it.

Weapons are punchy and satisfying, with adversaries' AI providing just enough challenge to enjoy the fights. Close proximity fights are so much fun that it took me back to Doom2 and 3 days!

The time invested in playing RAGE will reward you with hours of pure fun.
