Completely unpolished, plenty of bugs, UI is awful and the AI is almost non-existent, add to that there's no random map generator - one was made by a user but the AI will not traverse the maps it creates correctly.

On top of this the support is typical of an online game that's unfinished and made by an independant developer - manned by 20 year olds who make their support forum a wonderful place to swing their ego's instead of helping users.

Don't get me wrong - the game itself has heaps of potential, but has not received a patch in 4 months as of this review and the developer has moved onto other god-awful games (going by their reviews).

It gets a 4.4 critic and 4.6 user score on metacritic and I'm guessing that's more to do with the potential than the actual game itself.

A real pity. Do not buy if you're after something really nice.

yeah i'm with ya there, It's a game "I want to like" but looking objectively, I just cannot tell people to play it.

I have a couple of hundred hours on the game as well, but all of them spent trying to play again after each patch, hoping it would be better. I wanted to like it, but it was never really enjoyable. I have never been able to finish a game of SOTS2.

It's a game that wears on you. It's one where you love the ideas behind it, love the concepts, however the implementation over time just pisses you off - even after you accept the poor interface and some of the graphics.

I'd recommend it for anyone who can handle stuff like dwarf fortress or that kind of oldschool style of graphics and gameplay, but I'd steer clear for most ppl looking for something nice to play.

It can be modded, but many of the things you'd love to be able to change in the game cannot be touched - like the AI or the trading.

Over 430 Hours of gameplay... and you don't recommend it. Has it been patched to your playing standards since writing this review? Exactly what makes a game you have immersed over 430 hours into, something you don't recommend (I'd really like to know)?
