The utterly moronic publisher decided to do randomly update this old gem of a game, likely to insert promotional content for their stillborn sequel. Result: crashing for everyone. It's like the Magicka 1 story all over again, except with even more incompetence.

You. Don't. Touch. The. Executable. Of. Old. Games. For. Any. Reason.

Or you provide a fracking rollback beta if you do so.

I really love this game. It's like the missions where you don't have a castle in Heroes of Might and Magic games, only much more fun. It takes place in a fantasy world that seems generic at first, but a healthy dose of humor and irony (and bad translations from Russian) set it apart from the rest. And some quests and artifacts you'll encounter are definitely not generic!

Gameplay-wise, you'll be mostly wandering around beautifully detailed areas, collecting loot, avoiding high-level baddies and looking for fights you can take on so you can level up, and so on. The fights themselves are a beautiful tactical affair, you're always trying to minimize losses and to make the best of troops you can hire locally (some people insist on making long back and forth trips to replenish troops instead of working with what they have, I think it's a fun-killer). There area many spells and special abilities to spice things up.

The only criticism I would have is that later areas of the game can be very difficult especially if you didn't make a very good character build, and there are less fun quests to lighten things up. Latter areas are also less well-designed. Overall though, you have a lot of liberty for the order in which you want to tackle the late game challenges, and finishing the game was satisfying despite having taken two year-long breaks.

Highly recommended!
