Best shooter on the market today, and it's free to play. Not only that, but the free to play model they use doesn't spam your friends, or cut off your play time, or upset the balance of the game in any way. In fact, the weapons and perks that people can unlock by paying real money can be earned over time with XP, can't be upgraded with money, and are only different flavors of play styles, not over-powered death machines. Simply put, this game is a balanced and fun time, no matter how you choose to play or pay (or not pay at all!).
I highly recommend it to anyone who likes online shooters. This franchise has a great history behind it, and this entry is a fantastic addition to that history.
Seriously, are you still reading this? Play the friggin game!
Finally spent some time with this game, after trying it and putting it down a couple times, a couple years ago. After beating it, I can now say with certainty that this is a "good" game.
Now, I've had a good working computer for a couple years now, well enough to run this beast. That wasn't the problem: the first half of the game is workable, but not insanely good by any means.
The pace of the story is at odds with the pace of the gameplay I found myself required to perform, which was to use cloak and sneak around as much as I could to pick apart or avoid enemy defenses. This slowed down the experience considerably, even while other characters sounded like I ought to be running.
That is, until the second half of the game, which is ALL about tearing up alien ass with big guns. That's where it really gets fun.
So, if you don't mind slogging through some "meh" gaming early on, there's a fun few hours to be had near the end of this technological marvel.
A fun free-to-play experience with an interesting twist on most other F2P models: those with deep pockets who'd rather pay for gear than grind will probably fail at this game. The mechanics are simple, but with little intricacies that require good reflexes and actual skill to use effectively.
While I'm adamant about not paying for F2P games, I believe this game is well worth the cost of at least the Starter Pack ($20), which gives you a butt-load of in-game money, a "heat" (gear XP) amplifier, weapon and trinket slot upgrades, and extra energy tanks. Beyond that, I can't justify paying much more for this game. I'll let those with deeper pockets and little patience support the company for me. :)
The game's a lot of fun, especially when you play with friends. Best of all, as long as you force yourself not to buy in-game money, you won't be able to play more than a couple hours per day, perfect for moderating your play time.
I highly recommend this game to just about everyone. Now go!
Based on these reports, I strongly recommend that no one buy this game through Steam. Or at all, for that matter. To hell with Ubi.
