It's like giving kittens evil robot appendages. Mostly.

Once upon a time, an Evil Mad Scientist (EMS) named Evil Steve invented kittens. After he invented them, however, he decided that they were not Evil enough. So he gave them Evil Robot Appendages. Thus, Evil Mecha Kitten was born. But cats being the defiant creatures they are, he rebelled against Evil Steve and dropped the "Evil" from his name. Some say that Evil Mecha Kitten was better. Some say that it gives the wrong impression. Some say that Quebec is its own country. TMC ignores them all, choosing to stare at all the interesting things that go on outside his window. Those who fall under his gaze can only mutter nonsensically of the fear they experience.

On his deathbed, Evil Steve gave just one reget.
"I should never have given him an Evil Laser Pointer. When he learns of it, the universe shall know the true Evil that is TMC..."

In light of this, the UN signed a secret treaty with over 400 coutries. Men, women and dolphins from all over the world work night and day to keep TMC from discovering his own power. Until he is neutralized, the world lives in constant fear of the day of the Red Apocalypse...

In the mean time, TMC got his doctorate in Optics and Photonics, further cementing the worldwide fear that our doomsday shall be bathed in red, collimated light.
