I've played a great deal of this game, so obviously I like it.

Overall it is excellent if you like hard games with complex rules and emergent gameplay. If the Civilization series is too complicated for your tastes, you should definitely avoid EU4. EU4 is one of those types of games where unscripted stories develop that can be interesting to other gamers. They may not be quite as colorful as the stories from CK2 or Dwarf Fortress, but they can be interesting nevertheless.

The gameplay itself can be slow at times, but doesn't have much tedious micro managing, except during big wars. This doesn't make the game worse, it just means that there are ups and down in terms of attention and pacing. The downtimes are best spent plotting.

My main complaint is that the game changes dramatically from patch to patch. Strategies that worked before often don't work after. There have been many many times where save-game compatility was sacrificed. As a result, you need to monitor when major patches are released, and revert your game to the previous version if you have a game in progress.
