Aquatico

Take a deep breath everyone; you’re in for one amazingly fun adventure into the depths of Aquatico.
Digital Reef Games, backed by Overseer Games have done a great job at bringing us a rather unique city builder. Deep in the ocean, we are once again tasked with preserving the human race due to a natural disaster destroying the habitable lands.

Starting off you tasked with setting up your base and getting things going, place a few food, oil, fuel and a habitat modules down and you’re all set to go crazy on how you want to set up your underwater world. But be warned over extend to fast, don’t pay attention to the requirements of your buildings, and the wants of the people and you can find yourself sinking fast.

Aquatico, gives you a host of buildings to utilize, from housing, Seaweed farms, mining centers, drone factories and the list goes on. On top of a massive research tree to spend a lot of time working out what’s most important for your colony to acquire first. But don’t let this get you in a huff, as Aquatico is a chill experience with enough to keep you on your toes just in case something bad happens, which it will and best to be prepared for the things that can happen to turn your colony upside down if you don’t keep an eye on things, From disasters to shark attacks there is a lot to be wary of.

Game Sounds: The underwater environment sounds are great and the music is well suited.

Graphics: Very well done for this genre, I have found myself really enjoying the darker maps to bring out the neon lighting in the buildings. The graphic artist has done an excellent job with Aquatico.

Gameplay: Depending on the choices you pick prior to start, it can be a rather chilled experience from the start or a little more intense. The ability to balance you start from easy to hard is a nice feature. Additionally the amount of research you can do will keep you busy for a very long time, I always had that “Oh I need that building too, get it researched….. Oh I need that one as well!” moments through each city I built.

Value: The price point is spot on for the content in game and the amount of time you can invest into this city builder, a ton of maps to play on which all bring challenges to city design and so forth. Digital Reef Games have set their pricing very well for Aquatico.

Overall: Aquatico is one of those hidden gem games, a small development team has put together a fun and as challenging as you want the game to be city builder. There is enough here to put a good 50 to 100 hours into the game trying out all the maps, research and city ideas. Even more, if the genre is one you truly enjoy.
Congratulations Digital Reef Games, your first title is an excellent game.

Now back to my underwater city: Deepstar Twelve…… Don’t ask about the previous eleven.

Patron is a city builder that will test your governing skills to the max.

Keeping your people happy, safe, fed, clothed, and in jobs has never been so much fun and such a test of my ability to be a Prime Minister.... Oh actually I was more like a Dictator! (It was more fun).

Patron brings back memories of the game Banished but with a lot more to do. Overseer games have done a great job with the game play, the world maps to start your colony on.

If you enjoy city builder games, give Patron a go. There is a demo you can check out, but myself its very worthy game to be in my games list.
