Edit: I found a fix and could run the game perfectly using my PC running Windows 10, i7 4790, GTX 970, for about 2 hours, pretty glad.

--- Old Review, I now recommend this game.---

I have very fond memories of this game, and I wanted to play it again, I'm a pretty nostalgic guy and I enjoy playing games from my childhood every now and then. This game is pretty fun, the lore and the world feels gothic and pretty much dead at some parts, it has a heavy gloomy felling all over it, and it is good.

But there's an issue here with this partiucular version, since Infogrames closed and its IPs are scattered around different companies, no devs have appeared to patch this game.

It is technically unplayable on this given moment on my Windows 7 64 bit computer, I can't find a healthy way to fix the fps, the screen ratio, the sound and the unsurmountable amount of crashes, I wanted to play it and to feel this game again, but too bad that it is unplayable right now. A fanpatch won't come soon enough since this game is pretty underground and doesn't have a big old fanbase, probably most of the people that enjoyed it back then have now forgotten it.

For the moment, all that I can say is:
The game is good, it's fun, has some fun mechanics and good physics interactions for the time, the lore is extense, the world is vast with much to explore, the voice actors are pretty fine too. But...

Don't buy it if you don't own a old computer, you'll only be able to play it on older computers with Windows XP or earlier, or else, the uncompatibility issues will hit you hard.

As of now, I got a new computer with Nvidia graphics (GTX 970), a new 21:9 monitor and now I'm able to play it flawless lol, it seems that it is highly incompatible with AMD Graphics cards.

It was helpful to me. I had followed the AMD instructions in the discussions, but videos woudl not play and their were wrongly colored pixels everywhere until I changed the compatability for the Soulbringer.exe instead of the SoulbringeVCnoeax.exe. Thanks. Also, I will note that for me, I still had to turn on the "Run in 640 x 480 option" or else the title screen bcame a vertical border on both sides of the game screen. Thanks again.

i found a way to make this game work- you need to use the 'dsr factors' (nvidia) and go to both the 'Soulbringer' and 'SoulbringeVCnoeax' and compatible them to win xp service pack 3
hope this is helpful:steamhappy:

Pretty sure all their games are optimized

Does GoG have a different optimized version that actually works? Because if they do, they could help steam on that.

well, yes, I did look through the internet for many workarounds, compatibility mode was an automatic response from my brain to fix the issue, was the first thing I tried, too bad that this game got some complex issues with Windows 7, the frames are skipping too much and the game runs too fast on my pc,
Since Infogrames doesn't exist anymore and its IPs are scattered, there is just no way an official patch supporting windows 7 will come soon... and since it doesn't have many fans, I don't think you are able to find a fan-patch around as easily as Vampire Bloodlines, Fallout 1 or Daggerfall, which either have offical patches or fan patches for optimization on newer computers... Soulbringer is just long forgotten in our memories
