A game with lofty goals for co-op, open-world zombie mayhem. It almost works, too. Simple sanity checks fail in Single-Player, with items mysteriously disppearing and clear hits simply not registering, what I've come to describe as Dragon Age Combat Disorder.
I blame most of those problems on the checkpoint save system. If you die, you lose money and sometimes items (glitch), while being taken back to a nearby safehouse. If you return to where you died, it's a toss-up as to whether your items/objectives will still be there (probably not).
Amazingly, the multi-player keeps better track of your items and hits, but sometimes you will lose whole sections of missions.
Definitely play it if you love zombies, but you better be willing to lose good items, die arbitrarily, and scream in frustration. The rest of the game is great. I will have to debate heavily whether to launch this game ever again.
The WORST sin you can commit as a designer is to punish a player by removing power/items.

Portal marks a pivotal transition in gaming. In short, a masterpiece. The narrative is flawlessly executed through the use of sparse instruction and a low-stress, incremental, learn-by-doing approach that is prevalent in many Valve games. Among gamers that like more than just run-and-gun, this game ranks in the Top 5, if not the best game of all time. Definitely for one that looks for something new in an FPS, and a must-have for puzzle gamers.
