I think the premise was good, but the base game isn't strong enough to stand without mods. Tons of unrealized potential for the world and story, and the rest doesn't sustain long-term sandbox gameplay.

Glitchy, for one, but at least there are console commands to turn off clipping when soft-locked. Aside from that though, I just found it to be dull.

It's a far cry from the challenge and complexities offered by Disgaea 5.

I have mixed feelings about the auto-battle feature.

The gameplay generally feels a little watered down from its predecessors. There are familiar features from the previous games, but many lack the depth and strategy they once had. This is really what leans negative for me, as I think it limits the variety that was enjoyed by the previous titles.

Also, in-app purchases for consumables? GTFO.

Update: Since writing my review, I've completed all the story chapters. The gameplay experience did not improve. It's so easy to out-level the main content by leaving the game on auto-battle and forgetting about it for a few hours, and brute-force every stage until post-game. There's been nothing "clever" in the stage design. Auto-battle or not, they've been hugely boring.

It's been about 18 years since I played the first Disgaea on PS2. I've played every game in the series since, and have been delighted with each iteration as the features evolved, with each game having its quirks to learn and secrets to explore. Disgaea 6 is, instead, an enormous step backwards for the series. It feels hollow and uninspired, with development efforts focused in all the wrong places. Hugely unsatisfying compared to what the next entry in the series could have, and should have been.

This one is a little *too* idle. Turns a computer into a space heater.

Rather unique compared to other 2d crafting games. The story was interesting. I had some minor annoyances with the combat system, but nothing game-breaking.

Every time I think I'm done playing this game, there's more content.

Played the original on PS2. The port was very stable and didn't seem to lack any features or content. For me, it was a fun replay for the sake of nostalgia.

I've tried to get into it a few times, and I still have no idea what's going on in this game.
