(Download the soundtrack before playing, don't miss out on the awesome soundtrack that the Steam version doesn't have! http://steamcommunity.com/app/32380/discussions/0/540740501398048712/ )
(A really great guide for running on newer systems: http://jkdf2.com/ )

It's a pity, really, that Jedi Knight tends to run badly on modern OSs. I don't recommend it for WIndows 8/10 PCs as it usually runs pretty badly. My WIndows 7 rig ran it without a lot of issues.

It's a pity, because the game is just absolutely fantastic. Levels are huge, but not empty, and make great use of verticality. The automap is great at showing you where you're supposed to go, and really gives you a much better idea of how big levels are. There are a lot of nooks and crannies to explore throughout. The guns are satisfying, not great (Dark Forces I had better looking and feeling weapons IMO) , and the movement is really great, kinda like Quake's movement but with less momentum, handy, as JK tends to have more platforming and tight passages of which you don't want to fall out of. Force Powers are nothing special (This was before the prequel Trilogy, though), but some of them are well used in levels (especially Force Jump, but also Speed.) There are Dark Side (mostly damage-dealing) and Light Side (buffs/healing) It also has a lot of battles with Dark Jedi, but they're quite lackluster, since the lightsaber combat is pretty clunky.

The story consists mostly of live action cutscenes with some pretty cheesy acting, but pretty good overall (sadly, they run on what seems to be a 640x480 window on my PC, same as the menus.) The cool thing is that on about the last third of the game, you get locked into either Dark Side or Light Side. This will depend on how many innocents you've killed, and whether you invested in dark or light side force powers. Keeping mostly loyal to a side gives you a special force power (Protection/Deadly Sight.) I should probably play the game again to Force Lightning the hell of out everyone :)

If you run on Windows 7 or older you might be fine. 8 or 10, give it a try! It's too great a game to pass on just because it "might" not run well on your rig.
