It's still essentially poker versus computer opponents, but it's such a ridiculously silly game that I can't help but like it. The unlocks for Borderlands 2 are a nice bonus, and I hope Valve can find ways to implement this more in the future, both for Borderlands and for other games.
Pendula is quickly becoming one of my favorite adventure game developers. Their gameplay is fairly traditional stuff - think a no-death LucasArts adventure game from the late 90's with a few modern tweaks such as a hint system. But their stories continue to evolve and get better with each progressive game.
Yesterday continues that superb evolution of Pendulo's storytelling with a grim, fascinating plot about the occult. Think of it as their take on the Gabriel Knight series, but in all honesty, I greatly prefer Yesterday to those games because it creates its own lore rather than relying on something as eye-rollingly awful as Holy Blood, Holy Grail, which Gabriel Knight 3 borrowed heavily from.
There's one problem with Yesterday - the hotspot indicators are awfully hard to see.
On its own, I wouldn't recommend this game. But paired with its predecessor, it's a great deal of fun. It wraps things up brilliantly from Dream of the Turtle, and it introduces a lot of great gameplay changes, such as a button that highlights everything you can interact with. As I've stated elsewhere, don't bother with the first Runaway game - just nab Dream of the Turtle and this one.
