Australia has banned L4D2

The Australian Classification board decided to ban L4D2 for:

The game contains violence that is high in impact and is therefore unsuitable for persons aged under 18 to play.

It notes that this violence is “inflicted upon ‘the Infected’ who are living humans infected with a rabies-like virus that causes them to act violently.”

The report singles out the use of melee weapons as those that “inflict the most damage” and cause “copious amounts of blood spray and splatter (sic), decapitations and limb dismemberment… or even cause intestines to spill from the wounds.”

In conclusion, the Board finds that the “interactive nature of the game increases the overall impact of the frequent and intense depictions of violence. This coupled with the graphic depictions of blood and gore combine to create a playing impact which is high.”

Interestingly, the report also reveals that it wasn’t a unanimous decision and that “a minority of the Board is of the opinion that the violence is strong in playing impact and therefore warrants an MA15+ classification” instead. However, the majority voted to refuse classification.

A member on the Good Game forums (Zoltan Jr.) says:
By not releasing it here they are just opening it up to piracy. I can tell you for sure that if i can't buy the game im going to either import or download it through other means and im sure a couple hundred thousand other aussies will do the same

Using the above as what is going to happen this will just cause more unrest over piracy which may lead to even stricter rules regarding the R18+ debate.

Join this group and invite everyone who has being looking forward to L4D2 and is outraged at this decision.

We do acknowladge that the government does want to keep children away from adult material and that extreme gore and violence is not needed to find enjoyment but all these reasons are applicable for movies.

Zable has informed me that there is another L4D2 group dedicated to the same cause. They have more members but we are growing at a extremely fast rate so we are going to continue going our own ways for a bit until we both have rather larger groups and then merge.
