Well, i had it for a while but i never got enough clarity to actually give it a try ... dark place here ...
I got it on a bargain but even if not its still worth the money. Compared to a lot of other stuff out there. I see engines that are "for rent" ? like you pay a price yearly that would get you all software by gamecreators in one shot, as in "owned". If you wanna do quickies for teh lulz then this is your uncle as if its name was bob ... granted, the base character models look a bit outdated but nothing says you can't put your own in.
The dev team is clearly very sympa, im not sure how actively they're on it but they assure me they are. After a few weeks, mostly a few days this week i see the potential in it, i mean if you want something original you will HAVE to learn some basic coding ... its scripting so its not really that hard plus theres quite some available in the community and you can import about any free 3D model you find on teh webz ...
the main complaint would be performance i suppose and i agree ... its not built for making huge maps full of objects. Im busy doing a 1km² of the actual place where i live around my house ... its a hill-to-valley lots of terrain diff and even with super-basic entities as placeholder for the land plots and houses (to get the feel of it while modellin the terrain , modelling and everything is super wysiwyg btw, you dont actually have to code one byte if you just wanna whack some enemies) with all that i already have about 400.000 polygons running between 25-40 fps ... if i look in a direction with not much in it it ups to between 50-90 fps (gtx 970) ... which means if i want to insert detailed housing models later (not to mention scenery) ... cant have the npcs running all over eachothers gardens if they panic i will have to split it up or else make minigames .... however i hurr there will be a reduction in draw calls on a next update which (in my case) should make it run mucho faster (i use objects for the sidewalks btw, but they are all one and the same entity, as are many of the houses since this was a project built in the 70s, there's lots that look alike, and im not looking for photorealistic raytracing lol)
if you wanna do 3D games i think this is your huckleberry unless you know all about geometry, trigonometry, matrix transformations, c++, mip, map and other mapping bump and gloss and medians (lol) in which case you could ofcourse write your own game from scratch .... they should get a demo , something that has like terrain only, 1 type enemy, 1-5 objects, the colt, a starter and ending marker so you can get the feel of it .
As things stand i say this is alleycat-approved xD

"I see engines that are for rent "

Hooray someone with common sense ... Can i add to that ... I see engines that are..
" FREE TO USE " and not actually FREE as people seem to think :)

Yes GameGuru is yours all in one hit with over 6 gig of free assets ( more than any other engine on steam ) and yours to use in any engine you like Royalty Free...
Thats worth the price of GameGuru alone :)

Thanks for the detailed review, and glad you like things so far! We are working on an update that improves both loading times and in-game performance, but the best news is that we switched to DirectX 11 so plenty opportunities in the future for further improvements to speed and geometry reduction. You can get a speed boost by lowering the shader levels on some PCs too - more to come!!
