Strength & Honor

The new government of the Roman Republic ordered the letters SPQR to be chiseled on public buildings, armor, coins, and even park benches. The letters SPQR were chiseled on anything that belonged to the state.

Under the Republic, the state was composed of the Senate and the People of Rome. That's what SPQR stood for - ‘Senatus Populus Que Romanus’ - the Senate and the People of Rome.

Every time the people saw the letters SPQR, they were reassured that things had changed. It was a time of new leadership and new government.

The Praetorian Guard was a group of men who acted as bodyguards to the Roman Emperors. They were highly skilled and revered warriors. The Guard was created under Emperor Augustus around 2 B.C.

The term "Praetorian" came from the tent of the commanding general or praetor of a Roman army in the field--the praetorium. It was a habit of many Roman generals to choose from the ranks a private force of soldiers to act as bodyguards for roman emperors. They consisted of both infantry and cavalry. In time, this cohort came to be known as the cohors
praetoria.

The Praetorian Guard that came to exercise great power. A formation was useful not only in war but also in politics, making and unmaking emperors and allowing political and military action outside of the law. They had special privileges and, in the period when the empire declined, held almost unchallenged authority. If the emperor wanted to visit a distant battle site, a large Praetorian Guard detail was automatically dispatched.

All members on the group I consider soldiers. Soldiers (members) that have been in my army for a long period of time I'll promote them to Praetorians (officers),

Once you join, you either put {SPQR} in your name when playing with the group.
