I'm talking about variations. Crazyhouse is a great one, and there are various versions that
randomize starting positions in Chess. Nuclear chess is a cute change from the norm.
Oh course, those have been done; taking litterally 60 seconds to think of something new
and easy to add to vs. CPU, how about letting us add or remove some pieces? If you can't
beat the CPU on the hardest setting, maybe take away some of his material at the start.
If you can beat the CPU at it's hardest (which might be in to 50-80's, I think 100 might be
easier, not sure), you could always try to give him more material (and extra biship, rook,
pawn, queen, whatever and try to win.)
[continued...]
would help it stand out a bit.
Heck, even a cannon that needs to hide behind something like in Shogi(?) might be cool.
No limit to what could be changed.
Oh... some condition to do double moves in Chess might be pretty original. Either
some hard to achieve criteria to activate it, or mess with the material to compensate.
Maybe you could just remove a piece from the board (maybe rook or queen for an extra turn
in a varient... just something maybe completely original after taking another 20 seconds
to think about it.)
Etc, etc, etc....
I have to admit, I've been doing other stuff than
programming recently (home repair, friends and
family, etc...) but programming takes so long, that
I find it personally difficult to relate to people
who program exact copies of existing games without
modifying them to be new games, or, at least, to
offer variants of the game as an option setting.
I know that's "just me", but I seriously, I can't
imagine how someone's thought patterns would
be working in way that would result in doing something
as cool as implimenting all those games, and yet, not
include variations as you go!
I mean, I assume it takes a whole lot of hours to
write these games? Don't you think of cool
variations you could easily impliment during that
time?
Not complaining as much as I'm just thinking
aloud and wondering...
