Nice to see another buying Civilization IV. Its a difficult game. I've been trying to just conquer a large terra map all day with no luck.

In many respects, Bastion is an isometric platformer... but to stop there would do the game a grave disservice. It's a game with real heart, from the theme, to the story to the excellent narrator. The narrator is probably the most awesome I've seen since Max Payne's self-narration.

If Company of Heroes, World in Conflict and Combat Mission (minus its turn-based approach) got together, their offspring would have some things in common with Assault Squad, but none really does it justice. Cooperative play is often a requirement to get past artillery or armoured opponents, while careful attention to different roles means that combined arms is a necessity.

Micromanagement is pretty important, especially when it comes to tank facing or troop cover, but it's a smarter system than CoH with the ability for troops to dive for cover in the open and the ability to control a single man allowing for finer distribution.

Expect to lose a few games 'til you get the hang of the flow of battle, even on normal difficulty. Understanding that waves of troops are no match for serious machineguns, but said same machineguns die horrid deaths in the face of armour, and that your AT guns need to be in a sensible place to prevent them being one-shotted by a well placed tank shell...

Yes, I know it looks complicated, but it's actually a bunch easier to play than it at first seems. A strong mix of real time strategy, elements of tower defence, and a cool cooperative vibe. Just expect to play any individual game over four or five sessions, unless the AI totally kicks your ass... ;)
