I am a big fan of the Franchise, played eves since the first game. HoMM 1, 2 and 3 will be forever etched into my childhood. Wasn't really a fan of the 4th one, 5 was pretty great for its time, and here we are at 6. I'll start of by saying that the graphics and animations are pretty amazing, making me want to come back to this game every time. On the other hand, playing mostly solo the one thing that kills it for me is AI. The AI is just plainly annoying.

I play on normal difficulty, and don't really fall behind, but whenever an enemy hero comes near my kingdom with an army of similar size (mousing over them shows difficulty as : average) they will do evertyhing to stay one step out of my movement. Chasing them is futile because even with similar armies if they think they might lose, they will just run away and bail.

At the same time try attacking their kingdom and their army is suddenly set to : Deadly and will completely annihilate you. I haven't won a single game yet. It's just a cycle of building up my hero and army and then having them stomped by an enemy that spent half the game running away from me, only to come back with the bigges army. Makes for great entertainment. I'll be putting this one back on the shelf....
