This game is without a doubt, a ton of fun. In my opinion, it is only worth buying if you have some friends who are going to play with you, maybe a super cheap sale. This is because It is designed heavily with Skinner's theory, and suffers greatly from power creep. Look these up if you do not what they are. Once you are aware of those risks, and you are willing to accept them, you will enjoy many hours of fun defending.
I highly recommend Metro 2033. Especially if you enjoy an atmospheric game. Even more so if you played and enjoyed any of the Stalker series. On highest settings this game is visually one of the best I have ever seen. Even the lowest settings are nothing to scoff at. Mid range PC will handle it just fine. Some great mechanics to work with here. Turning off or shooting out lights to enhance your stealth is something we do not see enough in games. Metro 2033 is packed with tons of action, and quite a few different ways to play the game. It always felt like I was part of the story, not just a guy along for the ride. I don't play many Single Player games over again, but this one has earned it.
This game took me by surprise. I came in expecting it to be a decent title, and it far surpassed my expectations. The story was compelling, and gave me questions I could actually stop and think about how to answer rather than having just black and white, yes or no. I tried to do mostly stealth, and I was quite surprised how well the stealth was done. Stealth gameplay is a tough nut to crack, but the feeling of take downs, diving behind cover, manuevering from cover to cover avoiding guards just flowed beautifully giving a deep, immersive feel to every action. No better feeling than popping one sentry with a tranq, then taking down a second in close combat, and moving the body out of sight all in between the rotation of a security camera. Deus Ex is a hybrid free roam linear game, mostly linear, but there is a ton of freedom and plenty of options for how and when you take on missions. It's not perfect, but it does so much right it's definitely in my top 3.
