A cute lil' puzzle game. Nothing terribly difficult, more like something to unwind. I'm impressed how they've used a handful of basic game mechanics to create rather diverse gameplay experiences, mixing up level elements & goals.

Dang, I love run'n'gun shooters. Or, well, more like walk'n'gun in this case, you are a walking tank (which is greatly supported by that heavy footstep sounds) cleaning out the trash in a hellhole overrun by violent scum. Fitting this setup, the violence isn't for the faint of heart, your Auto-9 turns heads into munch, criminals may complain about their hand gotten shot off when going down, the usual stuff. Unsurprisingly, the backdrop is perfect for an FPS; that is gang crime so violent, they leave you no options but to gun them down.

Between shooting goons, you do cop stuff. You get dropped in a city area where you can head straight to the target (and miss most of the fun) or treat violations of civil order accordingly, ranging from blocking a fire hydrant with a parking car to straight-up murder. Dang, Detroit is awesome! Not to live there, make no mistake, it's a ran-down hellhole. It's a fantastic backdrop for a game! Interrogating suspects & chasing clues is rewarding in of itself, while providing food for the skill system. The latter is fine, I'm not a huge fan of games bringing them to the table just because it's the thing to do, but the mixture of incremental upgrades & singular game-changers works fine. Bonuses like ricocheting bullets don't even add that much to your power level, they add a huge heap much to the fun level!

As do gun upgrades, your Auto-9 starts off formidable already, can be turned into a death machine. The upgrade system is pretty clever, it combines sensible videogame mechanics with a strong flair of real-life tinkering. And if that gets too boring, you can monitor someone with an exploding CRT. Other weapons ain't too shabby either, classics like the Uzi or SPAS12, accompanied by more exotic bretheren, such as the G11.

It's a fantastic FPS in of itself, not relying on any love for the source material, while providing heaps of service to fans of.

Mario World 3D meets Yoshi's Crafted World.

To whomever doesn't know either games, this is a diorama'ish 3D platformer. That is, the camera follows our heroes from a fixed perspective over the 3D stages seemingly made out of handicraft materials. And crafted the levels are, every centimeter oozes that lovingly hand-crafted vibe making them a pure joy to play. Same goes for the music, those amazing tunes support the happiness this game creates.

I said "heroes" earlier, so pick up a second gamepad & share that joy with someone!

Whoever called this an RPG, i.e. as in "Bandai Namco RPG Essential Collection", please shut the hell up. This isn't an RPG. There's absolutely nothing RPG in here except combat stats which makes it an ARPG. A soulslike ARPG, that is, with that respawn mechanic of you bearing the weight of your death instead of simply reloading, with enemies hitting like a couple trucks at once, with initiative/staggering being as important as your health as well as your stamina of which there's never ever enough. I dearly think they should've gone less on special terms for bog-standard concepts ("haze" instead of "experience" or "blood veil" instead of "armor"), that didn't take long to get used to.

A fine piece gameplay-wise, exploring the ruins of a fallen civilization (ours, in case that's not obvious) doesn't get old either.

Enemy scaling is a great way to suck all the fun out of progression. After all, why even bother getting stronger, if you're facing enemies of the same relative strength anyway? On the other side, the combat is quite something! It does require a hefty dose of reaction, as well as situational awareness, you know, m4d g4m0r sk1llz. Different enemy types, hit zones, the latter coming with gratiutous gore. Holy hell, the gore! The core gameplay loop is that of a shlocky B-grade zombie movie with the desperation & hopelessness of the actual survivors providing but a contrast to your own carnage. Breaking weapons don't add much in terms of survival, rather serving as some additional source of depth.

Overall, clearly on the repetative/dull side of things, the tropical backdrop as well as depth in combat do a lot to make it fun.

Hands down the high point of the series so far, with its ridiculously clever puzzle design. I'm glad I can finally use environments for combat as well (unlike the last game). To anyone not familiar with the premise, you got 3 characters with 3 vastly different skillsets you get to use in combat and puzzles, the latter posing as the heart of the experience. Prepare for some tough brain teasers, as well as clearly unintended solution.

Interactive movies with scenes loosely depending on how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ you are as a human being (your choices) as well as gamer (quick-time events), been there, done that. Gotta say, FMV adds a whole new dimension to the genre, especially when used for humor to great effect. To put that differently, this gotta be among the best examples of amazingly hilarious[www.imdb.com] B-grade nonsense. Bonus points for tying the game mechanics into its plot.

Dear Coalition, the term "ultimate" has a meaning. When there's exactly one ability per character, it's not an "ultimate ability", it's "the ability". Or "active ability" if you really need to decorate this somehow! Aside from that absolutely needless serving-the-trend, I like the concept of different characters having different abilities. Together with them getting different starting weapons, I would've liked this in the main campaign, instead of lumping one abilities into one (otherwise rather passive) party member. Presentation-wise, the juxtaposition between scifi & tribal really works in its favor.

I guess I shouldn't act surprised about Ubisoft hating their customers, I can still downvote the game. Taking the online backend down (without migrating to one there to stay) is annoying, not unheard of. The LAN mode becoming unavailable from said backend going down, now that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ vile.

An extremely unique action-adventure. The style can be described as "Tim Burton does Alice in Wonderland" with the world being built around dice and, as a matter of fact, cards with you progressing into the heart of the realm. That unique combat system is friggin' awesome!
