New Review:

With the recent updates of Abyss & Visions, and Next before that. This game is finally close to what I was looking for when the game first launched. Yes it took two years to get there, but Hello Games has been diligantly been chipping away at the issues over that time and the game is better than ever.

Since launch, they have added vehicles, freighters, frigates, biomes, plants, animals, completely overhauled the underwater system, added community events, quests, archeology, base building, minor overhaul to space stations, ringed systems, rainbows!, a lot of story updates, and a lot of graphics updates. And saying all of that, I'm pretty sure I am missing something.

I can now say that I get completely lost in just exploring in this game. I am constantly amazed by the things that I see. The game isn't perfect or anything, but it is definitely worth playing at this point in time. Constantly amazed at Hello Games continued dedication to the game with so many free updates.

Original Review:

I wish I could give this game a third "Meh" option in between yes and no. This game is far and away not anywhere near what they built it up to be. It isn't a terrible game either. It just isn't great and it looked great. It does get extremeley repetitive very fast which to me is the biggest disappointment of the game. While I am sad that they didn't actually include customization with the ships, or any true purpose with the factions outside of just something to slow you down, or the lackluster crafting.

I could have gotten lost in this game had the environments and creatures been diverse but they aren't. I love exploring, but sadly I feel like every planet I go to is pretty much the same planet as the previous one with a few new creatures and a color difference. The environments look about 75% the same through planets, as you go they do add some new options like floating materials which is cool. But these new things are few and far between. I remember the dev stating that he liked exploring caverns, not entirely sure why there isn't anything in them.

But what this game does have is a solid base hence the "meh" rating I'd like to give. I hope that Hello Games puts in a few meaningful FREE patches that provide more variability to the game. At $60 cost, I kind of expect it because this is NOT a $60 game. Sadly with how the world is these days, I expect that they will actually release these updates view pay to play DLC. I do think that if they provide some content updates though this game can be very fun and very awesome. It just isn't there right now. Let's hope they can fix it.
