The latest, best (and possibly last) entry in the STALKER series. It's a FPS with RPG elements. There is no skill progression, but there's an inventory system so you can mix and match different weapons/armors/artifacts. Weapons can be upgraded. There is a main quest, but most of your time will be spent doing side quests or simply exploring the landscape provided by The Zone. You can get rather immersed in the world. The game can be scary, in its underground sections. It's an eastern game, so it has its quirks. Possibly even bugs, but I don't remember encountering many.
Look for the AtmosFear mod, makes the weather pretty. Possibly a "Complete" mod, although I haven't tried that.
A fantastic puzzle game, mostly for people who like programming, but others should also enjoy it. At the start of most puzzles it will make you feel like the most moronic person that has ever lived, at the end of it, you feel like a genius. Then you see your score compared to others and you feel like a moron again.
