The dollars to fun ratio is high. But, the frustration with scaling makes it a borderline do-not-recommend.

Its a colony game... But actually it's a factory game. Optimise and build your settlement to reach the win condition before you get unalived.

It's the same thing every time, there's very little variation. But, every settlement lets you improve and build upon those improvements so it never feels TOO repetitive. But, if you don't like cyclical gameplay loops, avoid.

Any unfortunate display of feature creep that has seen a relatively tight and dynamic experience turned into an ever increasing cacophony of modifiers, mutations, bonuses, negatives, side grades.... Look, I loved NGU. I don't love the idea of having to do all the stuff that NGU has you do, in a survivorslike.

I'd be heckin' all over an actual idlegame using all Spellbook Demonslayers as a platform.

My main complaint is that you have to invest in RNG.

There's slightly too much choice to the point it feels diluted. It's not like other survivorlikes where you can reasonably clear a run with most weapons. Or, at least have that one weapon be strong enough that waiting for RNG doesn't have a chance to feel frustrating.

Once you figure out what units do what, what weapons do what, and what synergies do what... Aka 'git gud' the complaints about RNG disappear and are replaced with 'why do I only have two choices, guns or synthtech?' instead of being able to take small squads of a particular gun/tech mix to your liking.

The ability to rearrange and shuffle units and create your 'combos' with various weapons and unit effects is refreshing.

I wish there were more grid layouts, and that there were unit adjacency bonuses. But, maybe that's too much frosting on an already fondant rich cake.

EDIT: I am not the late and greatest Total Biscuit, my knowledge of menu settings is no match for a true expert. But, just going down my list and picking some smaller game devs (and a big one) we Have: Rogue Genesia, Gunfire Reborn, Repetendium, Age of Wonders 4, Monster Sanctuary, Tiny Rogues...

All of which offer menu keybinding support. Their statement is a deflection as it's impossible to quanity 'pretty much every game'. The Dev does not want to support disabled gamers.

---end edit

The developer does not support custom controls due to 'user misconfiguration'. If you're a disabled gamer or have accessibility needs, this game does not support you.

I want my 30 minutes back.

It's jank, it's awkward, there's no meta progression, visual clarity is abysmal, weapons are lackluster.

I'd rather have dropped my $1 in the sewer for how good I feel about spending it.

It honestly lives up to its namesake...

It's a grind, a slog, it's a good idea for an idle game.

This game gives me an ungodly level of anxiety. That chill music is like bringing a water pistol to an inferno.

A survivors like that lets you have fun and become woefully overpowered.

A refreshingly casual take to a genre that is becoming increasingly souls-like in their difficulties.

At best, it's not terrible.

It's rare a game manages to make powering up feel like a mistake. This is one of those games. Every choice you make seems to be an exercise in 'what sucks the least' and there's never any fun moments.
