Your one stop shop for giant robot action, VR or pancake.

The mechs are deliciously physical, the action is heavy, the soundtrack is iconic.

It's nice to finally have a mechwarrior-like in vr.

PS1-esque sci-fi survival horror game that knows what it is -- stellar presentation, tactile design, an oppressive atmosphere, a wealth of cruelty, and an ending that made me cry a lot.

I'll do anything
I made a promise

Early Access Review
Hey you know that thing in anime where you've got a dude in a suit and they're flying and shooting? This is that, the game. It's a UE3 arena shooter and feels like it stepped out of my teenage years. It's good.

This blast-from-the-very-near-past has a focus on large maps with high-speed chases, low-to-the-ground flying, and a compelling mix of cat and mouse gameplay as your health is also your ammo, which does not regenerate while using your jetpack (and sitting still is usually a death sentence). Flying high in the air is death. Sitting still is death. Shooting all your bullets is death. Go snort a line of caffeine and / or stimulants, grab a rifle, and get ready to fly! You're gonna need it.

Take a fighter jet, wrap it around a person, give it way more guns than should be possible, and congratulations, you have an exosuit. The game really nails this feeling, and has a very high skill ceiling if you can get past the initial cliff. The (current) community is small, but active. There are efforts to organize matches three times a week on the discord.

it feels like some kind of mixture of ace-combat, armored core 4a, starwars pod racing, and tribes. These are all very good things.

In Other Water is, a lot. I do not feel the desire to spoil the game here, as it is only nine to ten hours in length, but I found the experience moving.

The graphics are simplistic, just about as much as the game needs to tell its story and pleasant in a minimalist sort of way. The sound design and music are haunting, the mechanics simplistic but purposeful.

What stood out the most to me is the story. The store page itself gives you a tasty little starting point. The world of Gliese 667Cc is wonderful and soothing to immerse yourself in, the story which unfolds across that blue-green ocean is dramatic; it has highs and lows and twists and such vivid scenes. At each precipice I could feel my rapid heartbeat as I braced for the incoming unknown.

This is one of few stories to grip me so extremely, and even bring me to tears.
Plus it has space lesbians (and I ship them so hard)

So, a somewhat short review for this game, but I shall try my best!

I reccomend this game to a very high degree, but be warned, it is a bit of a rougelite.

What is CRYPTARK in two words?
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Epic!!!!

What is CRYPTARK is a far larger amount of words?
CRYPTARK is a 2d shmup in which you must enter "derelict" ships for salvage ops. Why are there quotes around that? Because, you aren't here to do the actual salvage work! You're here to absolutely anihalate the still functional defense systems of these alien husks! The gameplay happens across multiple parts of sort, inside the derelict ships, attempting to destroy the security system (which I'll get back too), and on the level of managing you're funds/resources between the multiple ships. For each one you take down, you get a cash reward; however, for each ship you must also pay for you're loadout. The more gear, weapons, armor, etc you bring along the more it costs you. Thusly the game is a balancing act of your money. Winning a mission yields a reward and lets you advance, losing a mission means you get nothing, meaning you have to eat the bill for the equipment spent and move on. The game is lost when you run out of funds, forcing you to restart the campaign. I will note, the campaign is rather short; with 10 hours pumped into the game I have JUST beat the final mission. There are more game modes than just the campaign, and there is a degree of replayability from being able to unlock multiple "pioneer suits" with artifacts. Artifacts are the game's method of providing lore, absurd challenges, and buying new suits!
Now, let's get to the bit that really shines: Taking down the husks.
For each mission there is the set reward, a list of secondary objectives that can range from easy to brutally difficult, the loadout you pick for your attack, the tactical map/overview, and the hordes of automated defenses inside each ship.
Taking down one of these beasts in no simple task, you're ultimate goal is to destroy the central control brain. This will be obstructed by more defenses systems and the drones in the ship. Things like shield systems that must be destroyed to lower an energy barrier protecting the control core, alarm's that gather the entire defensive force to you're location if triggered, drone factories that pump out more bots and mini bosses, door control's that lock you out of regions, flak on the exterior of ships, auto repair systems that will ressurect previously ruined systems, etc. This makes each ship no simple task as you zoom throughout the alien corridors to systematically disable the defenses while enemies constantly attack you. This adds a surprising tactical layer to the game as you craft unique schemes to destroy the defenses on each husk (which are procedurally generated).
Even you're loadout will need to be modified on a mission to mission basis, in an attempt to satisfy secondary objectives, make a profit, and take down the control core. You have limited ammo for guns, limited health, limited items, and a constantly ticking clock that puts a reasonable deadline on your operation. To unlock new items for use (the unlocks are campaign specific) you need to loot data consoles in the destroyed vessels.
Grab an exo-suit, bolt on some guns and items, craft you're strategy, and get scrapping! Indeed, this is a very addictive and fun game, the combat inside a ship is by far the best part.

Also, the art and soundtrack are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GOLDEN!

Be warned, the "campaign" is short, and can be beaten in a small amount of time. There are a few more gamemodes available, but don't expect endless amounts of content here unless you like replaying things with different gear or imposing limits upon yourself (ex, limiting your budget for missions to an unreasonably low amount).

All in all, I STRONGLY reccomend this product! However be warned, the devs are still ironing out minor bugs (airlocks not rendering right on the minimap, units sometimes getting stuck in walls, and the portraits of characters sometimes not animating when talking. However, none of these are game breaking, and do not happen frequently)

This game is wonderful. I'm serious.

DISCLAIMER: I Program computers in my free time when I get bored of video games. My opinion will be skewed by such, you have been warned.

Duskers asthetic is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WONDERFUL! Seriously! It reminds me of the old computers from days of yore! I LOVE IT TO DEATH!

Duskers has a wonderful tension to it, specifically in the OH ♥♥♥♥ situations that crop up here and there. It sets a wonderful atmosphere and has a deeply interesting world with what little I've seen of it thus far. You use drones to explore derelict ships and scavenge for resources. It's a spectacular experience as you yourself are not directly inside these deathtraps, but the loss of a drone or failure to gather fuel is a constant threat. These risks and threats still feel very immediate even though I can continue if I lose a drone, or don't find scrap.

Do not attack the enemy head on, you will loose countless drones. If you want a FPS or something with lots of shooting, go buy an FPS. Duskers is about being resourceful and intelligent.

You control your drones through a direct control (arrow keys) and a shell (Command Line). You can only drive a drone with the arrow keys, to do anything more you have to use the shell. It is rather simple and the game has a quick little tutorial, it isn't full blown programming but I still love it to death.
A quick example of how one uses the shell

> navigate 1 r15
> gather 1 all

that would send drone 01 to room 15 and tell drone 01 to gather all the scrap in that room. It's a rather interesting little system.

Along with these goodies there are upgrades, modules, etc, etc, etc. ALL THE LOOT! (Yes, you can also find disfunctional drones to tow back to your ship, repair, and use in future scavenging runs)

However, loot can break. So you have to keep scrapping unneeded loot to keep your good loot in working order or it will become worthless scrap!

There is equipment for drones, and ship upgrades. A great deal of the ship upgrades are very, very, useful. And I have eyt to run into a single drone upgrade I dislike (but the stealth and shield upgrades are my favorite). Plus, you can commandeer a derelict deathtrap if you can remove all hostiles from it. These ships can have all variety of goodies!

Then, there is my favorite part. The Alias system.
You can do some very, very, barebones and very basic automation of drone control with Aliasing.
A few Examples

A simple shortening of the navigate command for 0# $#!+! moments.
nav=navigate $x1 ($x2) ($r1) ($d1)

A simple alias to return a drone to the boarding vessel
home=navigate ($x1) ($x2) ($x3) ($x4) r1

Scan and gather the room a drone is currently in
gatherscan=scan $x1 ; gather $1 all

Tow a disabled drone back to the boarding vessel (haven't tested this one, made up on the fly)
getdrone=nav $x1 $x2 ; tow $x1 ; nav $1 r1 ; tow $1

Etc, etc, etc
The game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wonderful!

Oh, and a quick note, yes, you can suck stuff out an airlock :D:D:D:D:D

Pssst! A quick extra thing!
Disabled drones still have a video feed! I let you think about how that is useful on your own!

This game is wonderful, When I first got it I was skeptical because of the bad reviews.
I can tell you that the game is FAR BETTER than I ever expected it to be.

The mechanics are wonderful, I havn't found any single level to be too difficult (not even in the weird platforming heavy levels, and I suck at platforming-anything!)

Uncle Quadwrangle (The crazy-ass guy living in this weird-ass mansion) Is a pretty good character, I mostly enjoyed the ocassional humor (which is basically the only reason he exists).

Overall, the game has one or two VERY VERY VERY VERY MINOR speedbumps. But none of them are in the puzzels or the games mechanics. I also found it fairly charming and entertaining (some levels were easier than others, but the shift goals are fun) :)

Buy this game if you want a wonderful bunch of mechanics and really well made puzzels. :D
