I promise that it's more fun than it looks. It allows/forces you to be really creative in your solutions, and any given problem has a ton of different possible ways to solve it.
I've only put ~30 hours into it but I have to say this is one of my favorite games of all time. The difficulty gets a little bit out of control towards the end of the game but most of the early puzzles are very fun and doable.
If you like being creative, please give this game a shot even if you aren't math/computer inclined. You will be surprised at how satisfying it is when you give the waldoes a set of instructions and they do what you were trying to get them to do. And then there's more satisfcation to be had when you figure out ways to improve your solution and make it faster and more efficient.
Also, the soundtrack is amazing.
It's a little bit intimidating at first but I promise once you solve a couple puzzles you'll be hooked!
Basically, you are a pirate. Yar har fiddledee dee.
You fly around with a fleet of spaceships that you control like in an oldschool arcade shooter, collect resources, fight bad guys (or good guys if they have cool stuff you want to take), do missions, level up, uprade your ships and weapons, get more ships, etc.
Keep in mind that the company that makes this game is 2 people working out of their homes. There isn't much voice acting and the game is rather complex and deep. The result is that there is a lot of tutorial stuff to read through at first so it can be slow going at the start. I have a feeling this is the reason for the low metascore (74). Once you get into it it's really fun.
Such a fun game! I spent hours and hours playing the flash browser based version back in the day. This is a great game to play for 20 minutes now and then. Buy it on sale some time - you won't regret it.
