Bolt

Bonkers. The soundtrack is excelllent in particular. Good for dipping into on an hourly basis. If you hate the idea of MOBA games then this is the best way to go; people hate you far less for screwing up here.

I actually really enjoyed this. Couple of control issues aside, it's a well crafted Japanese third person shooter, with all the slightly off-kilter dialogue and twisty plot that entails. Combat is satisfying, with really nice robot damage modelling and it's crammed full of boss fights against increasingly ridiculous giant mecha. I'd say give it a go if it's reduced to a modest price.

The most oddball and gratifying arsehole simulator around. A full and complete game without any DLC. If you enjoyed San Andreas but through IV was a bit of a limited grind, try this out.

Oh god, what have we done to this genre? I'm so sorry.

It's scary how slow and patronising games have become. Buy this, get the ultimate patch to resore the soundtrack and go nuts. It still holds up in raw gameplay to this day.

While it shares many of the faults of its new-school console FPS brothers, I can't say it deserves the negative rep it's managed to get. Okay, so it's linear and mildly patronising, but the mechanics of killing are actually the most fun and creative I've seen in an FPS for a long time now.

The childish nature of the game is a knowing one, and it's always giving you a nudge and a wink as it makes the bad jokes flow. The epic scale of the backdrops and the colossal levels of destruction that happen in them is an amusing spectacle. Actually quite an amusing diverson if you can learn to accept its limits.

Absolutely barmy.

The love for the art seeps through every part of this game. The soundtrack in partuclar is exceptional. Buy!

A biblical tale of blood, piss, shit and tears. Buy.

A worthy successor to the original marred by questionable boss fights and a weak end. Worth a punt at any price if you enjoyed the orginal.

A great fusion of old school action gameplay, satisfying modern meatiness and quirky indie charm. Lends itself well to either short bursts of play or time sucking sessions.

Give it a go if you want engaging an space game without slow turn based gameplay or five billion menus and keybinds.

If this was released 15 years ago, it would've been the game that ruined my school life instead of C&C, X-COM and Quake.

It's not Minecraft. No way, this has a game in it. Explore and gear up, be a mage, or a sniper, or a space trooper. Build a tower and defend it from zombies and goblins. Blow yourself up with explosives! Don't judge it on first appearences, there's a lot of content tucked away.

A very strange and compelling orbit 'em up about planets that eat asteroids and stars that eat planets. Sort of like a biopic of Unicron I suppose.

Planning. Panic. Skill. Relief.

Fantastic little indie game, well worth the cash if you fancy a twist to your FPS shenanigans. Will run and run if it gets the support the devs promise.

Needs a good shafting from the mod stick but soon becomes a survival FPS worth playing. Try the Complete mod with realistic weapn damage if you're new. Totally different game.

While other sandbox games may give you a limited opportunity to wreak havoc and carnage on innocent towns and cities it usually comes after you've built yourself up enough to survive. Just Cause 2 however revels in this very idea.

From the very start, the game encourages you to tear apart a mind bogglingly massive island's infrastructure using nothing but an arm mounted grapple, unlimited parachutes, instant access to a range of black market vehicles, guns and explosives and occasionally an armour plated pink ice cream truck.

It's not clever, it's not deep, but it's endlessly comedic and balls out action fun. Grab it in a sale and you won't be disappointed.

It has guns, gambling and consequences for your actions. You can mod the shit out of it too. What's not to like?
