Captain Kevin Sayre of the LSS Irradion is a homeworld-born Levelian, who joined the LESF after graduating. Rising through the ranks, Captain Sayre was originally the lead of the LSS Grandadour's STF drive team. After an encounter with a hostile species in the Large Magellanic Cloud, Sayre proved himself by devising the idea of an STF bomb. The Grandadour's STF drive was damaged and could not perform a jump without a long charge time, one that the Grandadour could not perform under fire. Sayre, instead of having the backup drive turned on, ordered his team to detach it from the ship, attach makeshift explosives to it and to fold it into the enemy vessel. His crew did not think it would work, but followed his orders nevertheless. Once the coordinates were entered, the drive folded into the vessel and detonated, severing the ship in half from the inside. After this victory, Sayre was promoted to Captain and given command of the LSS Irradion, the first and largest STF bomber.
