Apprentice Flame Charmer

Nikolas T.

Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece

When asked about his past, NAURGUL sighs and states that there is little worth knowing about his 23 years of existence. He is quick to point out that presently he is a computer science student and that is all that matters.

When asked about his gaming past, however, it is clear that he is not a man of few words. He begins by telling you how he is interested not only in experiencing all sorts of games, but also in studying them. He then proceeds to analyse his gaming life. Skipping the seemingly endless babble about role-playing as an expressive medium and the implications of introducing interactive elements in art, one would be able to retain his sanity by discarding most of this nonsense and keeping but a few milestones concerning video-games.

The first one would be an imitation of the NES which introduced him to Mario. The second milestone is when he got a PC. He was allowed little time with it, which he wasted playing foolish games. The third one would be Baldur's Gate 2, which taught him that video-games could be much more than time wasters. The final milestone is when he bought Half-Life 2 just to get any aggression out of his system, supposedly. However, when the game proved its worthiness, he decided to go on a campaign of video-game appreciation. That way, he learnt about Torment, the Fallout series, the Zelda series and other such wonders. He even got a Wii, eventually.

Finally, when asked about his views on life, he takes a deep breath as if thinking, although that wicked little smile on his face gives away the fact that he is pleased his preparations were not in vain. He then answers that his views on life could be best summarised by the following verses:

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
