I've been using the Steam Link for months now. I've held off doing a review until I had plenty of time to test it's performance.

I have an Asus RT-AC68U router and tried the Link with both gigabit ethernet and wireless AC. On both wired and wireless the performance is flawless for me using the Beautiful preset with Unlimited bandwidth.

I have 2 Steam Controllers and 2 Xbox 360 wireless controllers connected to the Link, all of which work with no issues.

Setting up the link was the easiest thing to do. Just connect it via HDMI to my TV, turn it on and connect it to the network. From there it detects Steam running on my PC the other side of my house and BOOM, ready to rock.

Some of the games I have tested are: Rise of the Tomb Raider, DOOM 2016, Rocket League, DIRT3, F1 2012, GTA V, Dishonored, Bad Company 2, Crysis, Gauntlet, etc.

There were no issues with latency or framerate and no input lag of any kind. Performance and quality was butter smooth. So smooth, in fact, that I left the Link connected via wireless AC as it was more than capable of handling the connection requirements.

Using the Steam Controller with it is a fantastic experience, allowing me to use the gyro controls for games like DIRT3 and F1 2012. With the 4 controllers connected there were zero issues with controllers for games like Gang Beasts and Gauntlet, even with friends over hogging the couch.

Overall using the Link has been a fantastic experience. After reading some of the negative reviews on here I really don't understand why some people are saying it's awful and has latency, etc - I have experienced none of these symptoms at all.

If you want to be able to chill out on the couch and play some games without having to build another small gaming PC or run a long HDMI cable, then I wholeheartedly recommend the Link. Yes, alongside the Steam Controller, getting it running in the sweet spot may require some tinkering to get the settings right to suit your network setup. But after that it's just a breeze.

For now, having the Link has allowed me to relax and enjoy games in my Library that I simply would not have enjoyed slouching at my desk and playing - instead, I can pop on the couch and give them a whirl.

10/10
