I never played the NES original as a kid, but I really liked this remake. My only gripe was I think they could have refined the controls just a bit. They still felt too stiff. I know they wanted the gameplay to follow the NES version very strictly, but the mechanics here were too often frustrating and awkward.

But I loved everything else about the game. Best soundtrack of any game of that year. Distinct visual style, awesome boss fights, good variety of stages and weapons.
