I've played about 39 hours, and beaten the game once after restarting a few times because I was rushing trying to get more lore!

Easily in my top three games of all time; this game affected me profoundly and its not often that a computer game can follow me and be constantly in my thoughts outsight of the actual game itself.

Solid story, visuals and combat. Keeps you guessing, with great depth and replayability.

I've played about three hours so far.

The game is worth the entry fee on the 'combat' mechanic alone. As a bonus, the voice acting is great, the story teases slowly and tantilisingly and its visually impressive.

I've not enjoyed a game this much since Prey; I feel like I've gotten my money back already and would wholeheartedly recommend.

Frustrating port, doesn't work with controllers.

Disclaimer: Rest assured this is the game we know and love.

HOWEVER. The backdrops are the original PS1 quality versions whilst interactable objects and playable characters have been remastered, so there's a jarring disconnect.

Some of the NPCs have been remastered, some haven't and I'm getting the distinct feeling they either rushed this, or were really lazy. Different things like ( edit: some ) chests not being animated, or not being layered so they fit in with the backdrop ( e.g. they should be partially concealed but are just pasted on ).

I'm getting used to it, but its only because I love this game and haven't played it for ages - and I'm willing to bet that's what they're banking on.

It would be pretty cool if someone modded the game with cleaner backdrops, or used some of the fanart out there.

Really lazy port, at least visually, in my opinion.

EDIT:

There are some valid points in the comments here.

I'm assuming most of you have played the original, and therefore you'd be happy to agree with my assessment of this title still being 'the game we know and love' - hell, its the reason I impulse bought it on day of release.

As a consumer I would want to get all the facts before making a purchase ( especially with all the Early Access / Assassin Creed / Batman controversy ) and I am happy to post what I don't like about a game I am enjoying, so other potential consumers have all the facts.

It's bastard hard and brutal, but nothing a balance patch couldn't fix.

The world is glorious and is what keeps drawing me back, rage quit or not. Think thats the key isn't it? Whether you come back or not?

Still better than most AAA games out there. Give it a shot, but put your big boy pants on first.

Early Access Review
Whatever that god awful 3 second, gritty background SFX loop is drove me near madness trying to complete the damn tutorial. Patience gone for today.

The best story I've ever seen in an RTS, and thats including Starcraft. I find the latter relies on fan-service and stereotypes too much to be taken seriously. The cutscenes are incredible with some of the best facial capture and lip syncing I've seen in any game, with a solid story that continues through all three of the playable factions. I'd happily buy expansions for this alone.

The gameplay itself CAN be fairly rock paper scissors, although each faction tends to have its playstyles - as they are toting in their advertisements. They have a unique MOBA style hotkey system, that takes a game or two to get used to, but becomes very efficient. Naturally you can manually select units etc.

If this had come out in 2014, it would be my game of the year and it'll take a hot contender to push it off its 2015 pedestal.

Needs a UI and camera overhaul to be playable.

Seems to be a lot of hate for this game, from fans and non-fans alike. I'm a fan and I think this is the best of the three so far, so go figure.

Would not recommend.

Bought it on a steamsale, and the controls and bugs turned me right off.
