The premise of a co-op shooter set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe had my interest from the outset, but I was wary as I've played enough of Vermintide - Fatshark's other Warhammer L4D-like, to know that I didn't enjoy that. So when I started playing this, feeling the 40k aesthetic bleeding through the screen, and accompanied by a soundtrack that rises above the high bar set by Mechanicus... well, I was over the moon.

The visuals are beautiful, the essence of 40k's grimdark in visual form. Towering statues, archaic consoles, stone and metal and flesh fused together in the environments to show what a little bit of Papa Nurgle's love can do to a place. The weapons feel weighty and sound beautiful as you blast heretics, traitors, and daemonkin alike, even the simple lasguns and autoguns! The voice acting is great too, everyone sounds distinct and you can tell what class they are just from their voices
And the soundtrack... oh my word. It's available on all good streaming services, give it a listen and if you're not convinced then I don't know what to say.

If it wasn't obvious, I think Darktide is a great game. If you *did* like Vermintide, there's a good chance you'll enjoy this too, as the melee combat that made up the majority of that game is here in full force as well. But even if you didn't, give this a try.

Early Access Review
Though I've not played much yet, just through the first episode, I know I'm really enjoying The Anacrusis. I was worried that the weapons wouldn't feel good, but they do, though I'd like a bit more heft. The pickups are varied and distributed enough that you never feel like you're wasting them. Weapons and recharge stations are plentiful, and the matter recompilers, where you select perks that last until the end of the episode, are a really cool addition. Of course, being Early Access, it has issues, however the team at Stray Bombay are 100% dedicated to making this a game that lasts for years to come. I'm really excited, and very much looking forward to seeing where it goes!
To note: This is a team of 20 people that made this game. For that alone, and the quality it already has, it's a fantastic start.

In typical Supergiant fashion, this is a stylish almost isometric action game with roguelike elements. And somehow also visual novel, almost dating sim like elements, which is kind of weird. Great art style, the story unfolds through multiple runs, and the soundtrack is outstanding too. I bought it on sale but I would gladly have paid full price. But the real reason to get this game?
You can pet the dog. Which dog? Only Cerberus, the three-headed hellhound guarding Hades. And he's such a good boy!

Also Dusa best girl. Don't @ me.

It's really quite good. It has a wow factor that never quite goes away, most sections are very memorable, while others are just a bit too stressful (in particular when you come up against the electric buggers.) However the game is well paced, and fun to play throughout.

A little more methodical than its older brother, but still a great game on its own merit.

Pros:
Prettied up version of the game that spawned one a gaming great
Xen feels really alien, and there's more story hidden in the level layouts
All the best bits of the original are intact
Sound design is pretty top notch

Cons:
For all Xen's problems, its length was not one of them. And it didn't need to be longer
The music was overpowering, overblown rubbish. Should have been remade, not remixed and made louder
A lot of "Where do I go? What do I do?" especially in Xen
Why did I spend a good hour or so smashing up vortigaunt science labs and such?

I don't necessarily feel like BM is bad, and I commend the team for trying to do a few things differently. But I doubt I'll be itching to go back to this version. More likely I'll just play the original Half Life again.
