The developers' current description of this game as a "flawed masterpiece" is a fairly accurate one. Still, its flaws don't hamper the experience. The stealth sections that give the game such a bad reputation can double as some pretty intense gunfights if you choose to play that way - though the more survival-based combat with the monsters is where the real pulse-pounding stuff is. But the game's strongest and most enjoyable point is, believe it or not, the incredibly detailed, believable atmosphere that draws you in for the ride. Metro isn't an average shooter, but strives to carve out its own place. The game deserves your attention - and if you don't believe me, there's a pretty hefty demo of the first couple chapters of the game available on Fileplanet.
The voice acting in this game alone is worth the purchase. There are many different enemy types, from the shambling zombie-like fellow to a large muscular eight-foot monster with meat grinders for hands. You have to survive as the waves go on, collecting money by killing enemies and spending it at the trader's shop in between waves before the next one shows up. Waves get progressively harder, until you have to fight the Patriarch boss monster at the very end. There are six different player classes (anyone can use any weapon, but different classes have different perks and discounts on weapons). Sometimes, a really gory kill will give your team a few seconds of bullettime to blow off mutant heads in slow motion with awesome gun animations (lever-action rifle <3). TEAMWORK IS CORE!
Game's good clean fun.
Blow stuff up while blowing stuff up while blowing stuff up while admiring the sexy vistas while base jumping off of everything in sight while blowing stuff up.
