This game illustrates perfectly how to violate artistic vision, coherency and style with greed for money.

We went from Odin the All-Father, the Norse God to "what the ♥♥♥♥ is this maid costume on shinto goddess and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ NICKELODEON?"

♥♥♥♥ you, Hi-Rez.
Time and time again you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ choose profit over anything decent.
First Tribes:Ascend, now SMITE.
You are the worst.

I played this game years ago, decided to come back this morning.
Game had 40 people online and a clearly high-level, experienced captain decided to be a whiny little ♥♥♥♥♥ after a loss so I promptly uninstalled it.
Tiny, toxic community, dead game.

This game is incredibly fun in a visceral kind of sense. Simple purity of team deathmatch gets blood pumping like no other.

Where to begin? I usually start off by comparing to a popular game in the same genre but this one right here... it's quite unique.

So, what is Hand of Fate and why you should try it?
The game itself is played against the Dealer, as you attempt to beat different challenges and combats that he throws at you. They are represented by cards, some designed to help the player, some to hinder and most are a mix of the two, so the difficulty is balanced on the edge. To help you on your quest, you have two decks, Encounter and Equipment, which you set before hand, but each round the Dealer adds his cards into them as well to balance out the 'goodies' you put in.

The cards will vary from straight up story encounters, which usually require the player to make a choice, and may involve combat. Combat is played out top down-ish in a limited area against pre-set enemies God of War style but much more basic. There is nuance to it but not much.

PROS
- Captivating obscure story, challenging you to find out more by unlocking more cards and beating encounters;
- Charming sound design, every clink and slam are in their proper place;

- The Dealer: ahhh, the Dealer... fully voice acted, enigmatic, aloof, sometime even tender towards the player. He will frequently comment on the happenings in game, even remembering the cards you used before. You are never quite sure if he is routing for you or trying to hurdle you and bitter at your progress. Intriguing character and SUPERBLY voice-acted. Probably enough of a selling point on its own.

- Mouse and Keyboard controls are re-bindable and perfectly functional (i.e. doesn't suck without controller). Controller still probably recommended if you got one.

CONS:
- Combat camera cannot be controlled and is sometimes pretty awful;
- Some people will find the totally unfair and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ RNG (tm) to be too hard to handle, such people should STAY AWAY from this game.
- RNG will screw with you. You will die. Repeatedly. Sometimes the Old Gods decide that 90% of your total HP is just about right to take away because you pissed them off......

OVERALL:
HIGHLY recommended to any RPG lovers out there with a bit of collecting cards mixed in. Dripping in polish and a lot of TLC.
