The game is so horribly optimized, it is unbelievable.
I run WH2, heavily modded, at 4k on ultra settings with heavy reshade stuff, without a hitch.
This one, without reshade and unmoded, struggled even to load the campaign map, and then the first battle.
I was astonished.
There is no workshop support and no Immortal Empires option yet and the entire game feels like you simply play WH2, but with extra units and maps that have come from badly optimized mods.
I would really wait on this one unless you want to play at 40 FPS without AA turned on, and wait almost 5 minutes on loading screens.
There are bugs as well. e.g. Sound gone in the middle of my very first battle something that has never happened before in any other TW game that I have.... and I have them all.

The opening cinematics, are definitely subpar. Why not making cinematics to tell the story like those that Blizzard was producing for Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3? The budgets are comparable.
For a game of this size, hype, and budget one would expect jaw dropping stuff telling the story. Instead you are getting barely animated drawings with voice over, where the characters do not even move their lips.

Since currently there is no workshop, you cannot use essential (well at least for me) mods like AI General, or removing the glow from arrows or using realistic size for heroes, better camera angles and so on. Which means that if your expectations are that you will play WH3 as you were playing WH2 you will have to wait.

Furthermore, the feel of it, the tone, the quality of it, just feels worse than modded WH2. Quite worse.
The gameplay though is pretty much the same. So why would someone not play WH2 instead of WH3?
Even the main menu is worse. Or the race selection on the campaign.... Quite the disbelief once you load it.

Not recommended in its current state, even if it was $10

I went from Day of Defeat to the Red Orchestra series, and then to this. HLL is a true successor to these games if you like tactical, thoughtful, strategic and incredibly intense gameplay. The community is great, with very rare and negligible toxicity. I cannot praise or recommend HLL highly enough.

Actually I have played upwards of 1500 hours (not anniversary edition though), and I can safely say that this game is a work of art. If I were to record footage - no more than 5 seconds of the style of each different location or 2 seconds of each different creature that can be seen in the game, I 'd end up with hours of footage.
The game is colossally epic in its scope and in its ambition and delivers hugely.
Now do not let the 2006 date discourage you from experiencing this game. This is no Diablo 2. Titan Quest has not aged at all. I play it in 4k with reshade and the graphics are unbelievably good. I should upload some footage...
Here it is:

Crap your pants kind of dark and atmospheric in certain places, stop and look at the landscape in others. Same goes for music. Same goes for the gameplay that has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of depth. Do not expect to simply and blindly allocate points here and there, get random skills and manage to survive in higher difficulties.

Probably top 1 in the action RPG category, probably in the top 5 of the most epic games created ever.

"Get it without a second thought", is my recommendation.

Early Access Review
Well... It is not Warband with Floris Expanded level of quality (yet), but it shows incredible potential. This is a very safe early access purchase in the sense that the game will certainly be finished, and it will most certainly be better than vanilla Warband. The stuff implemented that work are already much better than Warband and the game is being patched and is being improved on a daily basis as of the moment of the writing of this review. There is a lot of momentum. It is being improved by leaps and bounds each time, and it is already very very very enjoyable.

So should you buy it? Ofcourse you should. Since we are staying at home due to the COVID-19 situation, it is not as if you can go out and siege a castle in real life. You will have to do it virtually, and Bannerlord, definitely hits the spot.

Do you remember Sim City? Can you imagine its successors not being sucky and actually being incredibly spectacular? Well if you answered yes to both above questions then you probably had in mind this one. They just got city building right. Oh and you can mod it untill your face turns blue. Just an A+ title.

TL;DR
GET IT NOW.

--------------------------------
A Baldur's Gate type of experience but in the dark eye universe.

If you like BG, and if you liked Realms of Arkania get this game immediately.

P.S.
I am not quite sure why some people say that the game is not AAA, as it DOES have AAA production values.
