Finally got around to playing this game. It was worth the $5 to $10 I spent on it. The visuals are very nice for the most part. The audio is pretty good. Voice acting is alright (Russian accents always sound so fake to me for some reason). I'm tempted to play the game in Russian with English subtitles. For a linear shooter, there is some replay value with the different difficulty modes. I will play through it again on the "ranger" modes (more realistic?). The story is interesting enough and certain gameplay/map elements were done very nicely. The combat isn't as satisfying as I thought it would be, though and the AI wasn't done very well either. The gameplay feels slightly buggy/glitchy but otherwise runs well. Can't change individual video options in game (may have to edit some configuration files for that). Doesn't run great in DX11 with my 5850. Significant improvement running in DX10. Overall it's fun and interesting, but I'm hoping Last Light will have needed improvements.
Great sandbox game. One of the few games I can laugh with people while playing online. Since most content in the game will be user created (and the possibilities are only limited to your imagination) I can see putting a lot of time into this without it ever feeling stale. Like I said, being creative is the key, and this game is most fun with someone else. The game is like opening a giant toy box or container of legos -- have at it.
I find this game enjoyable and not too far from Oblivion. I purchased this when on sale and would recommend the same. The pros of this game: easier to get into role playing mood than Oblivion; weapons and guns are unexpectedly fun to use; atmosphere and mapping/world are good. Cons: similar to Oblivion -- the game engine still needs some work including the sneaking system, AI, movement mechanics, and character animations; the menu system isn't far off from Oblivion's and I would have liked to seen some better organization; can get boring.
All in all, I think it's a great game but it could have been better with some core game changes.
