The game feels like a joke compared to its predecessor. Dozens of resources, mechanics and systems to keep in mind (compared to just balancing ammo usage), with a lot of shoe-horned in "deep" plot, and more platforming than Half-Life.

All the Live Service stuff, and having at least 6 different resource icons on the screen makes it feel more like Far Cry: Blood Dragon, but this time the joke is on you.

The previous game was perfect - it had the right balance of movement and managing ammo, without being over the top, and no more plot than necessary. Just play DOOM 2016 (and the earlier DOOMs!)

Excellent and deep strategy game that stays focussed on logistics and combat. A lot of replayability with different planet types affecting everything from resource availability to aircraft viability to the presence of hostile alien life and radioactivity.

You might want to consider starting with 1 army and tech level 4 on Beginner on a Siwa class planet for a first game. Check DasTactic's and BATTLEMODE's series on YouTube for how to play (be sure to watch the latest ones as the game has changed a lot), the full manual is also available online.

Note on Linux you will need to choose Proton Experimental, use protontricks to install gdiplus and corefonts, disable Direct2D GPU shaders for the Scale effect by changing true to false in the direct2d.txt in the game directory, and not use the in-game UI scaling (lower your resolution instead).

The game is very simplistic - both Starsector and Avorion are better space combat games.

A great game - like a mix between Stellaris and Advance Wars.

Works excellently on the Steam Deck.

A great game - there's nothing else like it. I played a lot more before Steam and have been playing with the new DLCs now.

Works perfectly on Linux too.

Constant one hit kills and kaizo traps complete with unskippable cutscenes and limited saves. More like Only Up than Hollow Knight.

Typical PvP run around just to get instantly killed from somewhere - also huge areas of the map are often empty due to the relatively small number of players vs. map sizes.

I think it'd be better if it had squads of bots and players were mostly leaders of those squads (like Easy Red 2). As right now it doesn't feel like the grand scale of WW2 battles, and ends up just feeling like PUBG with a WW2 skin.

Also most of the buildings cannot be entered which removes a lot of the urban warfare feel.

The almost complete lack of diplomacy is terrible compared to EU4.
