You are welcome! And I'd probably say no to both, no real bonus to having played Demon's Souls other than knowing the combat, and watching some Dark Souls walkthroughs and lets plays will help greatly especially if you feel like you're in a rut. YouTuber Northernlion has a pretty good walkthrough, where I learned to love Binding of Isaac.

Incredible Artorias fight -- tougher and more spectacular than any fight in the regular content despite a shattered arm and missing shield. Also: super fast PC load times, final boss very cool too, more lore, easter eggs!

If you are an old school dungeon crawler fan and/or you've ever thought "I wish Stonekeep was more like Lands of Lore," then this game will make you endlessly happy. My first session was almost two hours and I didn't want to stop.

The Mass Effect games are the best example of story telling in games period. I can't even think of better story telling in movies. If ME3 ever comes to Steam I will buy the heck out of it, play the heck out of it, and forget about the tacked on ending.
