Viva, Viva a LFL

As successful self-determination movements spread throughout Africa after World War II, many Limpopans became progressively nationalistic in outlook, and increasingly frustrated by the nation's continued subservience to foreign rule. For the other side, many enculturated indigenous Limpops who were fully integrated into the Portugal-ruled social organization of Portuguese Limpopo, in particular those from the urban centers, reacted to the independentist claims with a mix of discomfort and suspicion. The ethnic Portuguese of the territory, which included most of the ruling authorities, responded with increased military presence and fast-paced development projects.

A mass exile of Limpopo's political intelligentsia to neighbouring countries provided havens from which radical Limpopans could plan actions and foment political unrest in their homeland. The formation of the Limpopo guerrilla organisation LFL and the support of the Soviet Union, China and Cuba through arms and advisors, led to the outbreak of violence that was to last over a decade

The Liberation Front of Limpopo, better known by the acronym LFL, from the Portuguese Frente Libertação de Limpopo is a political party which was founded in 1962 to fight for Limpopo's independence, which was achieved in 1975. It has ruled Limpopo from then until the present (2008), first as a single party, and later as the majority party in a multi-party parliament.
