Sometimes, you may imagine how it would feel to walk right into a painting, trotting around in its landscape and unraveling its secrets. Playing 'Dear Esther' feels just like that. It is no game in the closer sense - while many would describe games like 'Planescape:Torment' to "be more of" an interactive novel, Dear Esther by all means IS an interactive short story, albeit its contents are randomized as every playthrough will yield different audio segments of the letter adressed to the eponymous Esther while you slowly make your way an uninhabited Hebridean island.
'Dear Esther' is not for everyone, just like not everyone would willingly visit an art exhibition. If ,however, you are looking for something unusual, something to actually think about, this game is well worth its price.
