This is the closest any game has come to letting you jump into a classic heist movie and it gets a lot of things right. The randomized spawns and events during missions add a lot of replay. It has basic level up mechanics using three classes which you can quickly swap between in the middle of a mission. They have patched in some neat stuff including new content but have plans for DLC stuff later. Don't overlook this game.

This game takes some of the best sandbox parts of 4x strategy games and puts it together to make something slightly familiar to fans of the genre but also very different because it also incorporates features which seem like they belong in a space action shooter.

If you like to build your own star empire, deisgn your own ships and fiddle with sliders then it doesn't get better than this. The game launched rough around the edges but as of the last major patch it practically reinvented itself with lots of UI improvements and automated controls.

This is the only game where you can build a speceship the size of a moon and outfit it with your choice of weapons and tools to make it a carrier, self-sufficient hive ship, deathstar or whatever else you come up with. You can even make ships and stations the size of planets or stars or larger if you can scrape together the resources. They give you the building blocks and you assemble them into creations limited only by creativity.

This is a pretty good example of what a sandbox FPS game could be like. You get a gigantic map and can approach each mission with your choice of weapons and strategy. The guns feel good and there is a large variety of them. The fire physics is the best I have ever seen and they give you a flamethrower almost immediately so you can just have a blast with it. It's also seriously long and what I first thought was the end turned out to be the midpoint.

It has a few minor design issues such as the guns doing too little damage and wearing out too fast but you can fix this with a mod in just a few minutes. The checkpoints throughout the map start to get annoying unless you skirt around them or stop to kill everyone at each checkpoint before you continue on. You can also fix this with a mod. If you find you enjoy the gunplay or laying IED or brushfire traps for enemies then this may not be a bad thing.

Overall if you want a good open world FPS experience then you could do way worse.
