Despite me taking a few hours to really get hooked, by the time I reached the end I was astounded. System Shock 2 ended up deserving every bit of praise it gets. A true classic and so ahead of its time feeling utterly relevant and masterful 18 years later.

I've been following this game for ages - it feels like it's been in development for a long time - I bet it feels even longer for the developer.

At this point it's lived up to it's originals promises and expectations, and recent versions have completely cleared the game of the issues that the historically negative users reviews on here talk about, so don't be put off by them.

This is a difficult, almost hardcore space management sim that doesn't do much handholding. If however, you want a challenging and deeply thought-out sim that reflects the subjects being simulated, then it's definitely worth checking it.

For fans of Dwarf Fortress, Dungeon Keeper and ilk who want a challenging and deep simulation game.

Humourous and surprisingly poignant examination of the challenges faced in game development and it's larger consequences. I can't say much more without spoiers, so i'll leave it at that. Fantastic.

Only Baldur's Gate II manages to trump this as Bioware's best game. One of the finest RPGs ever.

+ Fantastic story and voice acting, set in an interesting time of the Old Republic with well written characters.
+ Solid round-based combat, clearly inspired by their D&D work with the Baldur's Gate series.
+ Graphics hold up impressively well all these years later.

- Needs a mod to run in modern resolutions, but it's not too troublesome to get working.
