Super time consuming. Graphics evoke 16-bit levels of nostalgia. Build, fight, destroy, bomb, mine.

As a fan of games like 1943 (I like 1942, but 43 is my favorite), I've always enjoyed shoot-em-ups, but could never get a part of the next stage in their evolution: Bullet-Hell. Games with so many bullets, you'll cry.

Jamestown is that game. It forces you to try harder difficulties to get better so you can even attempt the rest of the stages. Simple controls are a blessing, as you will need your reflexes and can't waste time remembering more than 3 buttons.

The story is interesting, set in an alternate reality Mars and loosely based on Early American History. So go nuts and shoot all the things!

I'd heard things about this game, but never checked it out. I wound up receiving it as part of a bundle and, during the holidays, booted it up on a whim.

I played it for 3 hours that day. Glorious game. As a fan of Platfoormers from the 90s, it definitely hit those nostalgia strings for me. Starting with a lowly gun that gets stronger or weaker depending on if you get hit and a fairly interesting story, Cave Story is one of the best games I've ever played. Great value for a great game. It's almost criminal that it only costs $10.
