Beautiful art style, cozy yet dark story and deliberate tight combat

While it's gameplay and presentation is a competent tribute to Metal Gears of old, the constant interruptions of poor writing and delivery just makes the whole experience gratingly UnFun and UnFunny.

Nostalgia aside, this is a terrible game with slippery controls, stale level design and bland choppy graphics.

Nostalgia, hidden qualities or people just taking a piss? I remember Shadowman back when it first came out as a seemingly ok, although bland, action game of middling merit. Playing it now for the first time I wonder where all the praise for this remaster comes from. Even if this was some sort of masterpiece in disguise, it's aged terribly in every single aspect. Muddy low poly visuals, sluggish controls, cringeworthy story and frustratingly confusing level design. Maybe there is some golden redemption to be found further in, but the first hour was torture enough for me.

Marrying a solid arcade style, almost on rails, shooter with a clever narrative technique.

Pretty bare bones but still a fun intro to the Deck

Incredibly satisfying logical puzzle where deduction allows you to chip away at the mystery and open up ways to get the last pieces in place by elimination and informed tactical guesswork.

There might be a cool game hidden underneath the surface, but already 30 minutes in I feel physically sick, from the violent visual and audial onslaught, in a way where I just can't keep playing. With it's apathetic cynical atmosphere and aggressively abhorrent presentation it's quite obvious that this game tries to be repulsive enough to discourage playing it. Mission successful I guess.

5/5 Love it
Status: Completed (bought the game on PS4 for a 100% playthrough, cause trophy-junkie)
Play also: Salt & Sanctuary, Sekiro, Dark Souls

+ Brutally stylish visuals
+ Fascinating take on catholic mythology
+ Gruesome monster design
+ Satisfying flow in combat
+ Varied and challenging bosses
+ Open ended progression, not very rigid in gating through power
+ Once learning the rhythm of an enemy a previously tough fight becomes a satisfying breeze
- Can be feel unfairly hard if attempting the "wrong" path first
- Quite extensive back tracking if you want to attempt a different path
