Looks like a typical JRPG but isn't. Dungeon adventuring with 8 different characters, yet managing money to win instead of simply beating the evil dude. Best part is it's not about saving the world, it's just about not becoming homeless. Eerily dark and sweet at the same time.

This + all the King's Bounty games are simple enough to pick up quickly while complex enough to bear an enjoyable challenge. It's by Russian dev, so it's not your typical Japanese or American plot and side quests. The original actually has some funny stuff too (in one quest you have the option to appease a hostile large plant by giving it a cow--so it can constantly have fertile, heh, breeding grounds).
