It has a skill tree and quest structure similar to Borderlands but the focus is on melee combat. I don't think I even found a gun until I had been playing for 5 hours, maybe even longer. This is one of the few games to make melee combat fun. It's a lot more visceral than L4D or Killing Floor and individual enemies are much stronger and more dangerous. The level design of all the different open world areas is pretty impressive as well. I highly recommend playing with friends but solo is OK too. It's not all good news, though... there are quite a few bugs primarily with the quest and inventory interface (probably because of bad console porting). The design is also a bit awkward even it wasn't buggy. But if you can get past the bugs and get used to the controls it's well worth it.
I wouldn't give this game as high a rating as most of the critics seem to. However, I did enjoy it a lot. Most of what is here has been done before, but this is all put together in a well crafted, fun, and great-looking package which is worthy of the Deus Ex name. Hacking, sneaking, and fighting seem to play equal roles which is in itself impressive. It does a good job of letting you play it the way you want to play. It's more action oriented than cerebral, but that's not a bad thing.
More epic in scale than the original Portal with more of a story. I felt the original Portal was a bit more challenging. But all the things that make Valve games great are present here. Co-op mode in particular is fresh and new. Highly recommended.
