How have I not reviewed this game yet? Alright, Civ V, probably my MOST played game (Star Trek Online is more, but a large, large chunk of that was idle time). As soon as it came out, I moved on from Civ IV and really never looked back. Admittedly the vanilla Civ V is... well, merely good. The expansions are really needed to the game to make it an amazing game, as they flesh out the mid and end game. I play this all the time when watching a movie, chatting, it's a great game to play when a show or something else doesn't consume all your attention, and can be paused at any moment.

It's a 4X game, that is "eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate", where the goal is to start from 2000 BC with some civilization and through science, culture, diplomacy, or war achieve everlasting greatness! You start with club wielding warriors and only knowing how to far, advancing through bronze working, chemistry, gunpowder, rockets, to future tech and spread your nation across the globe. Seriously fun game.
