I am a 34 year old gamer/writer/musician(Kind of) I live in the Arid Zone. I am a desert rat, though I have been known to venture out in to the wild north and far to the east from time to time.
I have been playing video games for as long as I can remember. My brother received an Atari VCS when I was a small child and I promptly took it over. Throughout my childhood we always had some kind of video game system in the house: Atari toColecoVision to NES/Gameboy to...well I've owned all Nintendo systems (except for the gamecube.) For me there never was a great market crash of '85. All I remember is that games became really cheap and we stockpiled them; when I recieved my first NES in '87 I just continued playing.
On the PC side, my grandma has had a computer at her house since I can remember. I started playing games like Oregon Trail and Reader Rabbit along side classics like Beyond Castle Wolfenstein . The computer was suppose to be for my uncle, but my grandma kept buying them even after my uncle moved out and on to his own life. I ended up being able to play many of the early Sierra adventure games, which gave me an affinity for the point and click adventure that I still retain today.
I have a distinction (If you call it that) of experiencing both the early days of both console and PC gaming. I am comfortable on either platform and don't think one is innately superior to the other.
I am also a writer, one that tends towards sci fi and fantasy but doesn't necessarily write for an audience. If I like it, I figure someone out there must like it as well... Now if only someone will agree with me and pay me for my ramblings, heh.
