I read your post at Daimao's hat club, so I thought 'd let you know how to install a hat. First, you need a .zip program, like 7zip, WinRAR, or my favorie, jZip. Open the file, and it'll have either instructions inside, or just files.

It will usually replace one hat, so just skip ahead if you on't have the option to replace multiple ones. If it's a skin that can replace multiple ones, click on the file of the type of hat you'd want to replace (Ex: for Pyro there might be 3 folders called "BEanie" "Brigade" and "Glove"). Then, usually, it will be a folder called "tf", and extract that to "X:ProgramFiles(Or wherever steam is on your compy)/steam/steamapps/yourusername/team fortress 2" if it's something like 2 folders called materials and models, extract that to the same directory, except a folder called "tf" inside the "team fortress 2" folder. It might say "would you like to replace blah blah blah", but unless you wanted the skin you had earlier, click "yes to all"
There you go.
