Painkiller HD is a brief good taste of the whole Painkiller franchise. I played all Painkiller versions and this one resumes them all in a 4 hs single player campaign.
There's a new weapon, named Soul Catcher that is a little bit of a game changer. It is quite over powered and is quite easy to kill a horde of enemies using the secondary attack. By doing that, you even attract souls which increases your health. The third attack will make any enemy your ally. I like that, since introduces strategy.
Basically Painkiller is trying to be friendly to nowadays' mainstream by giving nice graphics, and a easier gameplay. The hardcore side is still there, the classic maps (and a few new ones) and the main character. So if you are a Painkiller fan do it for nostalgia. If you are new, give it a try. You might enjoy it, a lot.
I wish the campaign would be larger, but the addition of local coop and multiplayer will increase the life-span of this game.
7.5/10
Cortex Command is a good game, great to play with friends in a couch and have some laughs with the mods from the community.
Sadly, the only thing that keep us away from playing it everyday is the controls. Walking over terrain is tricky, slow, and sometimes, painful. The AI tries to do a great job, but don't ever leave a Brain with a Digger or will end up killing itself (meaning losing a game).
Is a game I've been following around 5 or 6 years ago, most of the gun play and game mechanics are up to a point that they are quite balanced.
My recommendation is perhaps... try it and see if the controls are OK for you, but put some mods first. Some of them are really fun and interesting (ie: a nuclear weapon that kills half of the map).
The good news is that is being done using another engine, and the controls there are awesome. Can't wait to see it finished!
